Comprehensive Planner

Wallace Montgomery has an immediate opening for individual with 3-7 years of experience with comprehensive or community planning experience. Candidates must have experience in preparation of comprehensive planning studies, redevelopment studies, regulation interpretation and development, and have strong oral and written communication skills. Performs a wide variety of tasks for public sector land use planning, both current planning and comprehensive planning, including assisting in or leading efforts similar to the following:

  • Comprehensive plan research, development, and outreach
  • Zoning and subdivision code research, analysis, and development
  • Grant research, application, and compliance reporting
  • Land development application review
  • Public outreach planning and facilitation
  • Attend meetings of, and may make presentations to, client technical committees, planning commissions, and legislative bodies
  • Assists and works under the direction of the Planning Vice President and Community Planning Project Manager

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related field of study
  • Three or more years of experience in a consulting environment or with a public entity
  • Experience in the field of comprehensive or community-based planning
  • Strong aptitude for interpreting data and data trends
  • Ability to manage project tasks independently and with teams of varying sizes and disciplines
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and analytic skills
  • Commitment to engaging in outreach within diverse communities
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Adobe Creative Suite, ESRI ArcGIS, or similar products

Preferred skills/qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field of study
  • Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (or commitment to obtain AICP certification when eligible)
  • Experience in urban design, economic development, housing, utilities, sustainability/resiliency, parks and recreation, or historic preservation
  • Able to coordinate and manage multiple tasks/projects
  • Able to conceptualize and put ideas into action
  • Knowledge of scenario planning tools such as ESRI, CommunityViz, and SketchUp
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, elected and appointed officials, community stakeholders
