Community Design Works Intern

The Neighborhood Design Center seeks an intern to support ongoing community design efforts in our Prince George's County office. Are you curious about how to work in partnership with community members? This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and creative self-starter to work directly with communities on projects to improve neighborhoods. 

The candidate will work in a fast-paced, collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with landscape architects, urban planners, architects, foresters, artists and social designers, all committed to social, racial, + environmental justice. At this time, work will be a mix of work from home and socially distanced + masked in office and in the field work. 

Applicants with knowledge of or experience in Prince George's County strongly preferred.

Qualifications
  • Progress towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, community or urban planning, social design; non-degree design work and time spent in public policy and community development may be substituted
  • Strong demonstrated personal commitment to community design and social justice
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Job-related skills

  • Entry level design skills and a capacity for project management
  • Experience with public speaking (ex- small group facilitation, speaking with strangers, presenting at public meetings)
  • Real team player with flexible mindset 
  • Facility with some design software (ex- Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AutoCAD, Revit, and ArcGIS)
