Responsibilities

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Cemetery Preservation Coordinator will administer the County’s Cemetery Preservation Program in consultation with the County Archaeologist . The Cemetery Preservation Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for cemetery preservation issues in the County and consult with other County staff and departments and non-profit organizations. It will facilitate cemetery and burial identification and mapping, and create and run an outreach program, encouraging the stabilization and restoration of cemeteries by citizens, Eagle Scouts and Gold Scouts, homeowner associations, and non-profit organizations. This position will be responsible for maintaining the cemetery geodatabase and other electronic files, managing an annual grant program, including the funding treatment, and stabilization of cemeteries.

PREFERENCES: 
The successful candidate will have 

  • Graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, history or related field
  • Extensive historic preservation, archaeological and historic research, or cultural resource management or related experience
  • Experience in archaeological, historic research, and preparation of scholarly work
  • Experience in managing cultural resource and/or archaeological contracts
  • Experience with interpreting findings to the community and publishing papers for journals
  • Demonstrated experience in archaeological and archival research of cemeteries.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ArcGIS Pro
  • The ability to work on a small but energetic and forward-looking team is a must
Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience.
 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Commercial Building Inspector Certification. Residential Building Inspector Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
Incumbents may be subjected to travel.
