SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Amtrak is looking for someone to capitalize on recent and upcoming investments that will make rail travel even more popular in the Northeast Corridor. The Business Strategy Director Northeast Corridor (NEC) leads strategic analysis and develops initiatives for high-speed Acela and regional train travel connecting the major cities of Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston along with dozens of communities along the way. This is a matrix role with a broad scope, working with internal commercial and operations colleagues along with external authorities and organizations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop strategies that capture new customers and increase ridership
  • Position and segment high-speed Acela and regional trains
  • Evaluate and optimize stopping patterns and frequency
  • Capitalize on recent investments in stations (New York’s Moynihan and the new Acela fleet)
  • Plan for the advancement of major infrastructure projects (new stations, bridge and tunnel replacement, state-of-good-repair)
  • Monitor and evaluate ongoing financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develop customer-focused initiatives and product offerings requiring fleet-related or station-related investments

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Business, Economics, Urban Planning or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and training/experience
•    11 years work experience in rigorous analytical environment including development of financially justified business
•    Experience identifying and prioritizing strategic opportunities and working cross-functionally to build support
•    Strategic analysis in a network environment and experience with demand forecasting, customer service analytics and competitive analysis
•    Leadership experience in commercial, planning, financial or customer service environment
•    Experience with sourcing and evaluating performance data from diverse repositories

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    MBA or other advanced degree in Transportation Planning, Engineering or Economics
•    13 years leadership experience in analytical and strategic work environment

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
