Bicycle & Micromobility Program Coordinator

The Bicycle & Micromobility Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the facilities and services which make the University of Maryland College Park a Bicycle Friendly University. This position serves as an advocate for bicyclists and e-scooter riders on campus and works toward improving the infrastructure, programs, and services for this population. The Program Coordinator will partner with various entities across the campus and the College Park region to focus on all five E’s of bicycling: education, encouragement, enforcement, engineering, and evaluation. Responsibilities will include building internal and external partnerships, managing projects, implementing safety education programs, working directly with students and conducting research on best practices. This position requires strong managerial competencies including program management, direction, decision making and implementation, handling and management of contracts and vendor relations, budget and expense decisions and oversight, and staff supervision.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experiences:

  • Minimum three to five (3 – 5) years of project management experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years planning and coordinating events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A thorough understanding of the needs and concerns of cyclists;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to manage student interns, work with students in an academic setting, and to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and off-campus community members.
  • This position requires a passion for bikes and micromobility, familiarity with related sustainability, safety, and health issues, and a general knowledge about best practices in planning for bikes, and about the five E’s of bicycling (education, encouragement, enforcement, engineering, and evaluation).

Preferred Skills:

  • Bicycle maintenance and repair skills.
  • Familiarity with mapping technology and/or GIS data collection.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Google Suite.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle and meet the transportation requirements of the position.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position may require unusual work schedule at times, such as evening and weekend events and meetings.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in a customer service environment while meeting with members of the public while conducting fieldwork.
  • Enthusiasm, excellent customer service and communication skills (written and verbal) are a must due to frequent interactions with faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
  • Given general direction and instruction, must be able to work well without constant supervision.
  • The person in this position should be very energetic and enthusiastic about bicycling and improving bicycling conditions on campus.
