Associate

Camino is a lean organization with an open culture focused on efficiency and results. CCM seeks an Associate to be based in metro Washington, DC to join in driving the business forward. The position requires a high degree of professionalism, energy, real estate knowledge, entrepreneurism, and discretion. The Associate will work directly with the President and frequently interface with other team members, joint venture partners, service providers, and market players. Prior experience in real estate development and/or asset management is required to complement the President’s focus on investment. The Associate will be expected to wear many hats, learn the investment management business, and grow in responsibility and impact as Camino grows.

Responsibilities
  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with Camino team members, joint venture partners, and service providers to effectively obtain and provide business-critical information
  2.  
  3. Build relations and maintain database of DMV / mid-Atlantic brokers, property sellers, and developers / operators that might serve as joint venture development or investment partners: become the Camino expert in the region for deal sponsorship opportunities

 

  1. Prepare clear, concise, and insightful reports relating to Camino portfolio and asset performance, problems and work-out strategies, construction, and leasing status

 

  1. Perform periodic asset and JV partner visits to assess physical property condition, local management, and overall investment administration

 

  1. Assist in due diligence process for new investments including coordination with potential operating partners, as applicable

 

  1. Prepare preliminary development budgets or investment models (i.e. Proformas, land models, development reports) for proposed projects for review with President and other CCM team members

 

  1. Assist in preparing investment memoranda that communicate conclusions and investment risk in a narrative presentation to senior management and the Investment Committee, as applicable

 

  1. Other special projects in development or asset management as required / requested; some travel expected
Qualifications

The successful Associate will possess many of the following traits and experiences:
 

  1. Strong grasp of real estate development or asset management fundamentals and best practices with 3+ years of experience with a leading real estate firm, preferably in the DMV / mid-Atlantic market

 

  1. Highly proficient in oral and written communication with the ability to produce and present detailed work with minimal / no errors; naturally focused on efficiency

 

  1. Expert in Excel financial modeling (real estate and business project modeling with DCF and sensitivity analysis, JV waterfalls, pivot tables, etc.); experience with Argus or other real estate software a plus

 

  1. Proven track record in design, engineering, and construction, with thorough knowledge of the construction and/or development process; or

 

  1. Proven track record evaluating economic, competitive market, and demographic trends within an asset’s geographic area, and development and implementation of strategies to maximize asset performance
  2. The experience and maturity to effectively manage internal and external resources, JV partners, consultants, and contractors

 

  1. Very organized, patient, strategic orientation, and highly collaborative by nature; willing to roll up his/her sleeves to get the job done

 

  1. Intelligent and forward-thinking; low ego needs coupled with high levels of engagement, curiosity, and an ability to defend his/her position in a well reasoned, articulate fashion

 

  1. Comfortable with uncertainty, resilient, with a can-do attitude and the ability to rapidly adapt and navigate complex situations

 

  1. Strong academic background with undergraduate degree in real estate, business, accounting, or economics preferred
