Architectural Conservator/Historic Preservationist

Building Conservation Associates, Inc. (BCA) seeks an Architectural  

Conservator/Historic Preservationist to join the technical staff in our Alexandria, Virginia office. 

The Architectural Conservator/Historic Preservationist will be responsible for providing a full  range of services related to the documentation, assessment, and conservation of historic  buildings including: historical research, field investigation, field and laboratory materials testing,  report writing, preparation of construction documents (drawings and specifications), and  construction phase services. Prior experience with historic paint analysis is desirable, as is an  interest in and experience with historic preservation planning projects (e.g., Historic Structure  Reports, preservation plans, and Section 106 consulting). 

Candidates applying for this position should have a graduate level degree in historic preservation  with a concentration in architectural conservation. They should also have a minimum of 2-3  years of related experience and a working knowledge about the conservation and treatment of a  wide range of historic building materials. Demonstrable proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe  Creative Cloud is required. 

A successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable working at  heights in an outdoor environment. A willingness to travel is essential, as work of this BCA  office includes projects throughout the country. Occasional travel to use the Philadelphia office’s  laboratory will also be required. This position will employ a hybrid office/remote work plan.
