Qualifications

Minimum and Additional Requirements: A graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field plus at least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training on archaeological research, administration or management; and at least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology. Coursework or experience with GIS software. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the field of archaeology. Familiarity with southeastern U.S. archaeology. Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of historic preservation, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its regulations, 36 CFR Part 800. Ability to review and evaluate archaeological projects and reports for adherence to federal and state laws and regulations, and ability to apply National Register eligibility criteria to archaeological sites. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and database management. Experience with ArcGIS in PC environment and Microsoft programs. The position requires initiative, judgment, tact, and organizational, time management, and communication skills. This includes the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, consultants, and staff; the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines; and the ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner in writing and verbally.
