ADVOCACY COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Propel ATL, formerly the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, seeks an Advocacy Communications Manager to join our energetic and focused staff.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Advocacy Communications Manager advances our mission and elevates Propel ATL’s status as a reliable and effective advocacy organization by developing and managing its advocacy content and campaigns. They lead the Advocacy Team, which includes our Executive Director, Senior Advocacy & Engagement Manager, Transit Advocacy Coordinator, and Engagement Coordinator. 

  • Create, distribute, and maintain compelling and effective campaign content, calls to action, and other advocacy communications
  • Coordinate and edit content created by Advocacy Team members 
  • Design, implement, and evaluate campaign strategy in collaboration with Advocacy Team members
  • Lead effective advocacy campaigns that advance Propel ATL’s strategic goals; support the Advocacy Team and community partners in meeting advocacy goals. 
  • Regularly analyze and effectively communicate campaign performance, coordinating tactical adjustments with Advocacy Team members as applicable
  • Ensure all advocacy communication products created or shared by Propel ATL align with our guiding principles and The Untokening’s Principles of Mobility Justice
  • Continuously improve the overall agility of our advocacy campaigns and our responsiveness to emerging advocacy priorities
  • Contribute compelling advocacy campaign content for fundraising appeals and other organizational communication
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

  • Has a minimum of two years experience creating and editing compelling and inclusive public-facing content — especially, written — for campaigns or other strategic communication 
  • Has a minimum of one year of experience developing and implementing advocacy or integrated marketing campaigns
  • Has a minimum of one year of team leadership experience
  • Has experience working for an advocacy organization, coordinating political campaigns, or performing other relevant advocacy work
  • Has enlisted the use of storytelling in the course of creating content, especially video
  • Has effectively used a collaborative project management platform and digital tools to organize work, create and present work product, and manage relationships
  • Has regularly used sustainable transportation modes such as walking or using a wheelchair, biking, or riding transit

KNOWLEDGE

  • Fully understands the principles of effective strategic and advocacy communication, including the value of storytelling
  • Recognizes why a safe and accessible transportation system and infrastructure is key to advancing equity and mobility justice
  • Is current on transportation and mobility issues, especially their local context 
  • Is familiar with Atlanta’s political and civic landscape, communities, institutions, and neighborhoods
  • Recognizes and understands Atlanta’s history — especially its racial disparities and record of “intentional harm perpetrated by white supremacist policies and actions”¹
