Pepco Sustainable Communities Grant Program

The 2024 Grant Program offers funding for two key initiatives: Environmental Stewardship and Community Resiliency. The Environmental Stewardship program provides up to eight awards of up to $10,000 each to projects that enhance the resiliency of open spaces in the DC Metro area. These projects aim to protect water quality, reduce urban heat islands, and provide social benefits like health and community cohesion. Eligible activities include conservation efforts, pollution prevention, community engagement, improvement of open spaces (such as installing recreation trails or informational kiosks), and land acquisition for open space or conservation easements. Projects must align with regional climate strategies or land management plans, such as the Sustainable DC 2.0, Montgomery County Climate Action Plan, or Prince George's County Climate Action Plan.

The Community Resiliency program offers up to two awards of up to $25,000 each, focusing on innovative ways to support communities during emergencies while minimizing environmental impacts. Eligible projects include strategies to reduce the effects of severe weather events, natural disasters, or other emergencies; emergency operations planning; community training and outreach; and the acquisition of supplies and equipment for emergency response, such as solar energy storage systems. Both programs aim to promote sustainability and resiliency in the DC Metro region, addressing environmental challenges while benefiting communities, particularly in vulnerable or underserved areas.
