The Capstone Course is the final, signature project for the Master of Real Estate Development Program and culminates with the Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development Capstone Competition, a juried competition that takes place during the student’s final semester. Each student, along with classmates, works with a professional mentor to develop either a site-specific project feasibility study or research topic. Students present a 15-minute snapshot of their project at semester’s end to a jury of leading real estate professionals (not mentors or faculty) who assess each of the case presentations on indicators such as feasibility, sustainability, economic impact, and social responsibility. The winner receives a cash prize from the Institute. Professionals who give their time enjoy seeing the budding real estate talent coming from Maryland, and students get a real taste of what it is like to pitch their project to investors.
