Biography

Portia Strahan AIA, LEED AP, NOMA is founding principal of POM Studio Architects. POM, which stands for ‘Peace of Mind’ was founded to create visibility of responsible minority architects and designers, committed to socially and ecologically restorative design in the Washington, DC area.

Portia received a Bachelor of Architect at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters in Architecture while participating in Design Build Bluff. An Intensive collaborative graduate architecture program which involved designing and building an 800 sf off-grid classroom structure.

Over the years Portia has volunteered with Habit for Humanity, Casey Trees, PETS, Architecture for Humanity, Neighborhood Design Center and various hands-on outreach events in surrounding communities. Portia grew up in Prince George’s County and currently resides in Bowie, MD. She is a licensed architect in the District of Columbia and Maryland.

Portia is a repeat Adjunct Professor at University of Maryland teaching Architectural Design Studio 400 and 401.
