Over 60% of our faculty are actively engaged in creative and professional practice while teaching in our programs. These faculty work in top design studios, development firms and agencies in the Baltimore-Washington area, bringing their expertise and talent into the classroom for the next generation of practitioners. 

Our faculty research tackles challenges in transportation, housing, water quality, heritage preservation, building tech and the most pressing challenges of our built environment.

Your Blueprint for an Amazing Summer

The University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation offers certificate programs in urban design, historic preservation, and real estate development. The certificate programs are designed to compliment and run in tandem with other degree programs, offering added expertise in specialized aspects of the built environment.

UMD Certificate Programs:

This program combines coursework from both fields, allowing students to complete the degrees with fewer credits than completing them separately.

This program allows students to earn both a Masters of Historic Preservation and Masters of Arts in History in as few as seven semesters.

This 66-credit program integrates economic and business principles with historic preservation, allowing completion of both degrees in five semesters.
