Site visit and tour coordinated by:
Brittney Drakeford
Urban Planner, Policy & Research Division, National Capital Planning Commission
Brittney Drakeford is coordinating a site-visit and 1.5 mile walking tour of the Beyond Granite exhibition, a dynamic new series of installations designed to create a more inclusive, equitable, and representative commemorative landscape on the National Mall. The program is led by the Trust for The National Mall, with NCPC serving as a key partner alongside the National Park Service. Pulling Together is the pilot exhibition of the Beyond Granite initiative. The exhibition will feature special works of art, performances, and programs on the National Mall in the summer of 2023. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Paul Farber and Dr. Salamishah Tillet for Monument Lab.
The exhibition runs from August 18 – September 18. The walking tour of the exhibition will serve as an opportunity for students to consider the land use challenges that come with public commemoration, as well as the equity impacts.
