Ph.D. candidate Kerry Li Fang has been awarded a U21 Graduate Collaborative Research Award from Universitas 21, a new program that enables doctoral candidates to develop innovative, international research collaborations within the U21 Network. In partnership with colleagues from Australia and China, Fang will examine the patters of industrial clusters across North America, Australia and Asia.

This is one of several awards Fang has garnered this year in support of her research efforts at UMD. She was awarded the C. Lowell Harriss Dissertation Fellowship by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy in April to support her dissertation research on the relationship between industrial clusters and innovation. Her joint course with Higher School of Economics, St Petersburg in Russia, “Cluster-Based Economic Development beyond Borders,” was funded by the Global Classroom Initiative Grant from the Office of International Affairs at UMD in June. The grant ensures the continuation of this international class for three years. She also received the Equity and Inclusion Fellowship from the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) this month, which will support her travel to the APPAM Fall Research Conference, in Chicago.
