Stahl House (Case Study)

ARCH472 is intended to engage students with a foundational knowledge of BIM and bring awareness to the future possibilities of how this technology may advance building design and construction.  The course seeks to explore the existing boundaries of BIM and its ability to visualize and communicate three dimensional space between consultant teams and client teams, understand the concepts and techniques of digital modeling, and explore design opportunities in digital media across varied professional services.

The semester-long Case Study Project provides each student with the opportunity to model an existing project by utilizing the skills obtained throughout the course.  This semester students have modeled and analyzed case studies by architects Olson Kundig, Pierre Koenig, Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and RCR Arquitectes.  The Case Study Project is designed to develop core competencies within a BIM [Building Information Model] platform while providing an opportunity to explore future possibilities for the technology.  The project is evaluated based on a student's understanding and application of modeling techniques, precise use of media, drawing quality, parametric content, information scheduling, and the innovative application of technology.
