Julia Klineberg earned her Masters of Architecture from the University of California - Berkeley in 2018, after receiving a B.A. in Visual Arts & Art History from Rice University in Houston, Texas. She has since been working with a local design firm, Studio Mayd PLLC, and has produced numerous schematic design packages, construction permit documents and conceptual design portfolios for projects that range from residential renovations to commercial & business construction. While studying in Berkeley, she worked with design firm Sidell Pakravan Architects on local residences and small-scale commercial and retail projects. She spent her summers doing research with Berkeley Professor Renee Chow - who focused on San Francisco city planning and building trends - and Professor Andy Shanken - whose interest lay in the role of memory and ephemerality in architectural history. She also co-taught many architecture studios that focused on design representation in architecture, including two undergraduate studios, as well as a summer studio course for potential graduate students interested in pursuing architecture at the professional level. She debuted her teaching career at the University of Maryland this past summer, teaching Arch 300: Design and Representation II over a 6-week summer course, after actively participating in studio reviews for the Maryland School of Architecture in previous years. Julia grew up in Northwest, Washington D.C., and is passionate about the role of representation in architecture with an emphasis on environmental awareness and multidisciplinary approaches to design.
