Eight University of Maryland students were recognized for their visionary architectural projects at the annual AIA Maryland Excellence in Design Awards on Thursday, Sept. 21, at College Park City Hall.
A number of MAPP alumni also won awards this year, including jury citations, merit and honor awards. They were recognized for an array of project designs ranging from complexes to libraries.
The students proudly represented MAPP's built environment by taking home an award in every eligible category. The jury from AIA Connecticut selected the seven student awards based on their innovative architectural designs that integrated sustainable approaches for structures such as plazas, apartments, landscapes and more.
"This felt appropriate given that the awards ceremony was on home turf at the College Park City Hall. It was impressive to see the breadth of work honored, from students in our initial design studio all the way through to Master of Architecture students' thesis projects, said Assistant Clinical Professor Brittany Williams. "It's always inspiring to see the students attend the awards ceremony–they are recognized for their outstanding achievements next to seasoned professionals, including many alumni. It often feels like the start of many students' engagement with the profession."
