NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, has awarded graduate student Awais Qazi a 2020 NAIOP Diversity Student Scholarship. The scholarship advances diversity in the industry by supporting underrepresented students pursuing master’s degrees in commercial real estate. Qazi was one of four recipients selected from graduate real estate programs across the country.

“We are pleased to support this outstanding individual in his commercial real estate education through our annual diversity student scholarship program, and look forward to a bright future in the industry for Awais,” said Tom Bisacquino, NAIOP President and CEO. “By investing in the next generation of industry leaders and advancing diversity in commercial real estate, NAIOP is working to broaden and enrich the talent pool for our industry.

Originally from Howard County, Maryland, Qazi is pursuing a dual master’s degree in architecture and real estate development. He is currently a graduate teaching assistant for UMD’s Architecture Program and a project assistant for the Environmental Finance Center. Qazi is an active member of the American Institute of Architecture Students and NAIOP DC|MD and was part of Team UMD at this year’s NAIOP Capital Challenge.

"Awais is a bright, creative and motivated student and I am so pleased his efforts are being recognized by NAIOP," said Maria Day-Marshall, director of MAPP’s Real Estate Development Program.

Founded in 1967, NAIOP provides advocacy, education and business opportunities by connecting members in a powerful North American network of the commercial real estate development and investment industry.
