MAPP Announces the 2023 Architecture Scholarship-Internship Winners

Six talented graduate-level architecture students have been awarded scholarship-internship opportunities in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area through the generous support of partner firms Ayers Saint Gross, Design Collective, David M. Schwarz Architects, Gensler, Torti Gallas + Partners and WDG. These annual awards recognize academic achievement and a continued dedication to the built environment through study and practice.a

 

2023 Ayers Saint Gross Scholarship

Ayers Saint Gross is an internationally recognized design firm specializing in architecture, planning, landscape architecture, graphic design, interiors and space analytics. This fund, established in 2000 by UMD alumni who are practice leaders at the firm, fosters student, administrative and public awareness and understanding of quality planning and design. 

This year’s recipient is Katherine Grace McClure.

 

2023 Gensler Alumni Scholarship

Established in 2015, the Gensler Alumni Scholarship provides support for graduate students in the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. This global architecture, design and planning firm that provides services in architecture, interior design, brand design, product design, planning and urban design provides a summer internship and a scholarship toward the student’s final academic year. 

This year’s recipient is Adrian Mora.

 

2023 Design Collective Endowment Fund Scholarship

Design Collective Inc., located in Baltimore, Maryland, is a multi-disciplinary firm specializing in architecture, planning, urban design, landscape architecture, interior design and sustainability. The firm established the Design Collective Endowed Fund in April 2000 to support  the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and in 2014, the fund began supporting graduate architecture students with the Design Collective Scholarship. 

This year’s recipient is Liam Jones.

 

2023 Jack Smith Kerxton Scholarship (Torti Gallas)

The Jack Smith Kerxton Memorial Scholarship, the oldest scholarship at the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, has been offered each spring by Torti Gallas + Partners, a renowned architecture firm whose projects include traditional neighborhoods and inner-city redevelopment, revitalization projects, commercial ventures and transit-oriented projects. This award provides with a scholarship that includes an internship at Torti Gallas + Partners, an invaluable learning experience allowing bright students the chance to become future architects, designers, educators, artists, preservationists, developers and leaders in the built environment. 

This year’s recipient is Jose Gomez.

 

2023 WDG Architects Scholarship

WDG is an internationally recognized architecture, master planning and interior design firm specializing in award-winning commercial architecture, including higher education, office, residential and mixed-use projects. The firm’s summer internship offers experience working on design projects at every stage of development, from concept to digital documentation, and scholarship aid in the fall. 

This year’s recipient is Zeynep Demircan.

 

2023 David M. Schwartz Architects Internship and Traveling Fellowship

The David M. Schwarz Architects Internship and Travel Fellowship was created in 2014 to provide an annual travel award for architecture graduate students who are one year or less from graduation at the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. The award includes a 10-week paid internship with David M. Schwarz Architects (DMSAS), a Washington, D.C.-based design firm with an expansive portfolio of residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, athletic and master planning projects located throughout the country, along with a travel stipend.

This year’s recipient is Abigail Bullock.
