The all-day event brings together faculty, staff and students from the entire College Park campus to showcase UMD’s commitment to social justice through research, teaching and community engagement. Topics include:
- Immigration in the 21st Century
- Economic Development and Inequality
- Environmental Justice
- Creating Healthy Communities
- Media and Inequality
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies and Co-Director, Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution
Interactive Hubs: (10:45am – 12:30pm, or 1:30pm – 3:15pm)
Breakout sessions, called “Interactive Hubs,” are gallery-style, informal discussions that feature projects and work—happening around campus—that drive social justice, including projects spearheaded by the PALS program along with work led by Associate Professor of Architecture Madlen Simon, Associate Professor of Architecture Ronit Eisenbach, Lecturer Heidi Bulich and National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) President Tiana Howell. The project displays aim to drive interactive, lively discussions and open doors for possible interdisciplinary collaboration. Assistant Professor of Urban Studies and Planning Willow Lung-Amam and graduate student Erica Pitkow will facilitate one of the sessions.
