Associate, Diller Scof idio + Renfro

Biography:
Fareez Giga is currently an Associate at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, where he has contributed to many of the firm's award-winning architectural, art, and urban projects for over 7 years.  Prior to joining DS+R, Fareez worked at internationally recognized practices, including OBRA Architects, Handel Architects and Preston Scott Cohen, Inc.  Fareez holds a Masters in Architecture with Commendation from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design and a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from Stanford University where he was awarded the Frederick E. Terman Award for Scholastic Achievement in Engineering.  He has started his own practice, working on renovations and residential work in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, and is also a co-founder of Local Architects, which won the Popular Vote for the Beyond the Centerline competition for a reimagined Park Ave in New York City.  Fareez is a registered architect in New York and a member of the AIA.

Abstract:
Physical, financial, social, cultural and political - these are just a few of the circumstances through which a project of architecture, an urban reconfiguration, or an innovative and provocative piece of art arises.  Working within, through, and beyond these conditions allows architecture to innovate, surprise, and delight.  Through the lens of the work of Diller Scofidio + Renfo, and focusing specifically on the newly opened Museum of Modern Art Expansion in New York, we will hopefully begin to understand architecture not solely as the physical object, but rather as a response to circumstances both found and imagined.
