CHANDIGARH, INDIA:  A Place Where Architecture, Planning, Preservation and Development Come Alive!

Sponsored by the Colvin Institute

Reception: 6:15-7:00 pm

Lecture: 7-8:15 pm

The four disciplines of MAPP—Architecture, Planning, Preservation & Development—meet up in India.

You won’t want to miss this lecture by working architect, city official and avid preservationist, Surinder Bahga, as he talks about the city of Chandigarh—India’s first planned city—as it was designed by French architect, Le Corbusier. Le Corbusier conceived the master plan of Chandigarh, the capital of the State of Punjab post partition with Pakistan, 70 years ago.

Bagha was instrumental as a City Councillor in completing the development of Chandigarh as planned by Le Corbusier, overseeing the construction of the remaining unfinished development of downtown Chandigarh, as well as preserving the working studios—now a charming museum—of Le Corbusier’s workshop in Chandigarh as the city was built out over 10 years.
