You are invited to attend information sessions for the course “Havana’s Art & Culture: The intersection of architecture, planning, preservation, and economics”.

The study abroad course is held from January 3 - 19, 2024.

The University of Maryland offers this unique study-abroad immersion experience in Havana (Cuba) to UMD upper class and graduate students. (The course is also available to students from other university systems).

Havana’s Art & Culture: The intersection of architecture, planning, preservation, and economics is a highly interactive course with extensive opportunities to be part of a participatory learning environment with a diverse team of instructors and guests, as well as interactions with Cubans from various sectors in Havana.

Students will learn about the rich and complex contextual past and present framework of each of the disciplines, weaving in the arts and culture. Then, students will apply what they have learned to a project to be presented on the last day of class in Havana.

Havana is over 500 years old - one of the oldest cities in the hemisphere and a UNESCO World Heritage site.. The course will provide the opportunity for the students to venture through Havana’s neighborhoods, interact with residents and entrepreneurs, visit world-class museums and sites, and enjoy the music, art, and food of this historic, lively, and vibrant city.

Come join us!

The next information session is held on Wednesday, September 20. See the brochure for details and Zoom link.
