Silvia Vargas, FAICP, LEED AP will speak on how planners can address equity in all aspects of practice. Silvia has 30 years of experience working throughout the U.S. and abroad. After starting as a public sector planner in the Florida Keys, her subsequent private practice has spanned projects in urban, suburban, and rural contexts. Silvia has directed scores of planning processes, many of which have received national or state awards for planning excellence from the American Planning Association (APA) and other professional organizations. She has led or contributed to community visioning and comprehensive planning processes, parks and open space plans, regulatory codes and design standards, university campus master plans, community revitalization plans, and placemaking initiatives. Silvia serves on the APA Board of Directors and as chair of APA’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.
