Park(ing) day is a global, public, participatory project where people across the world temporarily repurpose curbside parking spaces and convert them into public parks and social spaces to advocate for safer, greener, and more equitable streets for people.

This year at UMD, the Sustainability Office, the Department of Transportation Services, (DOTS), UMD transit advocates, and students in the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation are transforming five parking spaces along Stadium Drive to reclaim the street for shared public use. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors are welcome to say hello and exchange ideas about ways we can collectively move away from car culture towards a healthier environment amidst our climate crisis.

The Student Planning Association (SPA), the urban planning student leadership group at UMD, will lead a cross-disciplinary installation that examines how public transit and social ecology can lead us towards a more carbon-free future.
