Computing & Drawing Slowly

This exhibit crafts an interdependence between computing and drawing in an effort to question the role of the singular "author" within contemporary design culture. With apparatuses and algorithms designed specifically for the Linear Gallery site, visitors participate in multiple "slowly computed" and "slowly made" drawings that occur over the course of the exhibit. A key component of one drawing apparatus is a vintage pen plotter, which, unlike printers, moves a physical pen across the paper to leave marks. The plotters’ mechanisms are controlled directly via the Python programming language, which allows a direct relationship between line of code and line on paper. Lostritto's gallery talk will be partially a narration of this methodology and partly training session for the MAPP community on how to draw with/for/in this exhibit.

Exhibit to open with a lecture by the exhibiting artist on March 31 at 12:30pm.
