The most recent issue of the Journal of Planning Education and Research ranked The University of Maryland's Urban Studies and Planning (URSP) program one of the top programs in North America for faculty scholarly productivity. The findings are based on the results of Google Scholar Citations data among ninety-nine Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) member schools in the United States and Canada through 2014. According to the report, which is based on the total number of citations per year per faculty member, the University of Maryland's URSP program ranks fifth in North America.
“It is wonderful to see our faculty and researchers be recognized for their hard work and contributions,” said Casey Dawkins, Director of UMD’s URSP program. “This is a testament, not only to our productivity as scholars, but to our impact on the contemporary issues facing the planning field.”
Many of the program’s faculty hold joint appointments with the university’s National Center for Smart Growth (NCSG), a non-partisan center for research and leadership training on smart growth and related land use issues in Maryland, in metropolitan regions around the nation and in Asia and Europe.
