UMD’s Center for Global Sustainability and Environmental Finance Center join forces to promote economic, social and environmental sustainability

The School of Public Policy’s Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) and the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation’s Environmental Finance Center (EFC) announce the joint appointment of Dan Nees as Senior Research Associate. He will lead efforts between both schools, which will focus on developing strategies that promote economic, social and environmental resilience in communities worldwide.  Nees’ appointment will amplify sustainability-centered work and resources already well-established at the two schools and increases opportunities for future project partnerships.

“This position is a testament to the shared vision and commitment of both the Environmental Finance Center and the Center for Global Sustainability to empower communities’ environmental health and economic vitality,” said Nees.

“Dan's efforts in promoting sustainable practice at the EFC have made the center an authority and resource for communities throughout the region,” said Dean Sonia Hirt of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. “I am thrilled he will be able to bridge this partnership with the School of Public Policy and discover new possibilities for collaboration."

Jennifer Cotting has been appointed as Interim Director of the Environmental Finance Center. Under her leadership, the EFC will advance the work of this new partnership, particularly as it relates to enhancing resiliency among communities.
