Senior Designer

Martin Brudnizki Design Studio has a vacancy for an ambitious and talented Senior Designer with a minimum of 6+ years of experience to join their New York Studio.

The position offers a high-level of responsibility in the design and coordination of multiple and simultaneous projects. The Senior Designer will develop the design concept as well as the design details and deal with the day to day running of their projects, while working closely with the ID and FFE Associates.

The individual must have strong leadership, organisational and administration skills. Very strong verbal and written communication skills will be required, as the individual will be expected to discuss and present their ideas to the design team and liaise with clients, contractors and consultants.

Responsibilities

Running projects from concept to completion at ALL levels of design and production. Including,

  • Understanding the contractual obligations between the designer, contractor and the client
  • Reviewing and coordinating shop drawings with contractors, consultants and clients

o   Understanding MBDS project deliverables to ensure the company meets its contractual obligations

o   Driving the project’s design schedule, by using their in-depth knowledge of design timelines and deliverables

o   Understanding the client brief and Design Directors vision for the project and implementing it into the concept design

o   Taking responsibility for the production of all drawings for the project, including full construction, legal and planning drawing packages.

o   Producing high end professional client presentation boards and booklets

o   Understanding of overall project costs

o   Leading all design site visits and meetings with contractors, consultants and clients

o   Compiling and promptly issuing meeting minutes

o   Understanding the project Health & Safety procedures and ensuring the correct documentation is complete

o   Suggesting appropriate materials and finishes, using the individual’s vast experience and knowledge of different suppliers

o   Knowledge of furniture, lighting, ironmongery and sanitary ware manufactures and their suitability for the project

o   Understanding the feasibility and commercial viability of the design

o   Managing, mentoring and supporting more junior members of the project team

o   Ensuring MBDS’s CAD standards are kept at a high level while developing the team’s CAD abilities.

o   Researching and engaging new suppliers and manufacturers, keeping the team updated with any new materials, lighting, ironmongery and sanitary ware products

o   Covering the other team members’ responsibilities through any absences

o   Supporting the general well-being of the team and its productivity.

Qualifications

6-10 years of experience ideally in hospitality but residential design may be considered, and be very experienced with running jobs; specifically, well-detailed hotels or restaurant roll-outs.
