Joe Ratner, graduated in May 2012, and became the Transit Oriented Development Project Coordinator of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). In this role, Joe says, "I work to further advance and identify joint development projects, in which certain WMATA and/or state properties are marketed to private developers with the objective of developing transit oriented projects." He served as a liaison between WMATA, MDOT, MDOT modal groups and local and state agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to further transit oriented projects.
Elena Sylos-Labini was hired as a Senior Director of Development at Aimco, one of the largest owner-operators of apartment communities in the United States. In this role, she coordinates all aspects of Aimco's redevelopment projects in the Washington, D.C. portfolio, and acts as a liaison between architects and the construction team. Elena's day-to-day management activities incorporate several skills acquired in the MRED program, including design revision and proforma modeling.
Devin Gerhart graduated the MRED program in 2013. Before entering the program in fall 2011, Devin was a Property Manager for Rosenberg & Freeman Inc., managing a residential portfolio in the Washington D.C. area. In the summer of 2012 Devin worked as an intern for the Neighborhood Development Company in Washington D.C. There he completed financial analyses for potential development projects. After graduation Devin worked for JBG Rosenfeld Retail as a Property Manager for a mixed-use portfolio in the greater Washington D.C. area.
Michael Montemuro is the Senior Vice President in the Property Management Division of SSH Real Estate, one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the Greater Philadelphia region. Aside from his MRED degree, Montemuro also holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Saint Joseph's University.
Matthew Ritz, from Silver Spring, MD, graduated from the MRED program in 2011. Matthew's undergraduate degree was in political science, and he had always had an interest in real estate development. He worked in property management, construction, and development prior to applying to the real estate program in 2009.
Yi Yin Chiang has recently moved from Taiwan to China to change offices while working for Jones Lang LaSalle. Yi Yin has worked for the company since she graduated from the University of Maryland Real Estate Development program in May 2010. Yi Yin majored in land administration and economics while working on her undergraduate degree in Taipei.
John Sheff, MRED 2011 graduate, attended the University of Wisconsin (UW) where he earned his BA in English Literature. Having graduated from UW in 2004, he lived in Manhattan for four years working as an advertising executive until he moved back home to Baltimore to change careers. In 2008 John started working in the office of Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley analyzing programs related to smart growth, bay restoration, sustainable energy, and CO2 emissions.
Brian Carnahan, May 2012 MRED program graduate, is currently working as an architect for The Neenan Company in Fort Collins, Colorado. Previously, he was a project manager for Himmelrich Associates in Baltimore, MD for 3 years. Brian grew up in Joplin, Missouri, and received his Bachelor of Architecture with a business minor from the University of Arkansas in 2005. He worked at an architecture firm for 5 years prior to moving to Baltimore to pursue his degree in Real Estate Development in 2010.
Christopher Murray is currently Vice President at Chesapeake Real Estate Group, and was previously Vice President and Principal of MidAtlantic Properties, Inc. for 12 years. Christopher was selected to receive the 2013 Developing Leaders Award from NAIOP, the nation's leading trade association for developers, owners, investors and other professionals in industrial, office and mixed-use commercial real estate. Christopher, graduated from the MRED program in December 2009 and has been a member of NAIOP Maryland since 2007.
Brian Brodeur was the first dual degree graduate from the school who was awarded both a Masters in Architecture and Masters in Real Estate Development in December 2010. Today he is a senior development manager for the Onni Group focusing on ground up mixed-use development in Chicago. Onni Group is a full service real estate developer, general contractor, property sales and management company based out of Vancouver, BC.
