Scholarships for International Study

The University of Maryland offers a number of partial scholarships to students planning to study abroad. Most are based on a combination of financial need and academic achievement.

UM Study Abroad Scholarships for Semester and Year Programs

Kendall Study Abroad Scholarship

The goal of this scholarship is to provide new international study opportunities for undergraduate students. The award may be applied to study abroad during any term: winter, summer, semester or full year.
Prince George's County International Ambassadors Scholarship
Graduates from Prince George's county public high schools who are enrolled at the University of Maryland and have reached their sophomore year or above are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The award may be applied to either the winter, spring or summer term 2009.
The scholarship is intended to support low-income students, especially those from underrepresented groups, who intend to study abroad in Africa, especially Liberia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Senegal and South Africa.

Erik B. Young, M.D., International Travel-Study Award

Dr. Erik B. Young wishes to support international travel-study for a group of undergraduates each year through the Erik B. Young, M.D. International Travel-Study Awards. The purpose of the program is to give deserving undergraduate students the opportunity to broaden their international horizons while they hone their academic skills.
Maryland International Education Association Scholarships for in-state students
The Maryland International Education Association (MIEA) was created with funding from the Maryland Commission for Celebration 2000. Recognizing that Maryland’s college and university graduates need experience in the global arena to be competitive in the job market, MIEA seeks to foster international education opportunities for students at Maryland higher education institutions.
The Maryland 2000 Commission established a scholarship fund for MIEA to award to Maryland college students participating in study abroad programs. Since 2001 MIEA has awarded over $20,000 to 41 recipients who have traveled to more than 25 countries throughout the world on various programs.
College Park Scholars Co-Curricular Scholarship
College Park Scholars also has modest scholarship opportunities for students who are planning to study abroad and for those who have completed their programs successfully. For those planning to study abroad, the Co-curricular Scholarship provides financial assistance to Scholars students who could benefit from support for their participation in Scholars sponsored travel study experiences.
