Hyattsville Route 1 Corridor Preservation/Revitalization Plan

Graduate students in the University of Maryland's fall 2003 Historic preservation Stuido developed a preservation and revitalization plan for the Route 1 Corridor in Hyattsville, MD. The purpose of this study was to research the history of the Route 1 corridor, to foster community awareness of their heritage, make policies and recommendations for the revitalization of the Route 1 corridor, and complete model projects to fulfill these policies.

The Study Process

  • Initial site analysis and boundary identification
  • History of Hyattsville
  • Reviewed information and pre-existing studies made available by the Hyattsville Preservation Association
  • Interviewed persons related to Hyattsville
  • Formal description and articulation of defining characteristics, assessment of integrity, and statement of significance
  • Class consensus description, SoS, etc.
  • Development of policies
  • Completion of model projects
