Providence Preservation Society
During the summer of 2011 I worked at the Providence Preservation Society as a Preservation & Advocacy Coordinator Intern. In this position I was responsible for assisting with most of the preservation-centered tasks for the organization. This includes administering the Historic Property Marker program by processing applications, fielding questions, and running committee meetings. I also coordinated the monthly meetings for the Planning and Architectural Review Board (PAR), a group of professionals who are concerned with historic preservation in Providence. The PAR offers free advice for architects and planners working on projects in Providence involving the city’s historic resources. Additionally, I answered everyday inquiries about historic preservation in Providence. In addition to these responsibilities, I assisted with the preparation of educational outreach program called Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk. This summer-long program focused on four different neighborhoods in Providence: West Broadway, The Riverwalk, Downtown, and The Armory District. Working with the executive director, I researched specific sites and themes to create both a walking tour and lecture for each neighborhood.
