National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP): This is a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America’s communities. http://www.nthp.org

National Park Service (NPS): Beyond the parks, the NPS is part of a national preservation partnership working with American Indian tribes, states, local governments, nonprofit organizations, historic property owners, and others who believe in the importance of our shared heritage and its preservation. http://www.cr.nps.gov/preservation.htm

Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP):
This council is an independent Federal agency that promotes the preservation, enhancement, and productive use of our Nation’s historic resources, and advises the President and Congress on national historic preservation policy. http://www.achp.gov

HABS/HAER/HALS (Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record/Historic American Landscapes Survey):
This is a Federal sponsored program that documents architectural, engineering and industrial sites as well as historic landscapes throughout the United States and its territories; the documentation is used to create an archive of American architecture, engineering, and landscapes in order to better understand America’s historic resources. http://www.cr.nps.gov/habshaer/

Preservation Action:
Founded in 1974, this grassroots organization seeks to make historic preservation a national priority by advocating to all branches of the federal government for sound preservation policy and programs. http://www.preservationaction.org/

Preserve America: This is a White House initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and natural heritage. http://www.preserveamerica.gov/

Save America’s Treasures: Established by Executive Order in February 1998, Save America’s Treasures is a national effort to protect America’s threatened cultural treasures including historic structures, collections, works of arts, maps and journals that document history and culture of the United States. http://www.saveamericastreasures.org/

National Register of Historic Places: The National Register is the Nation’s official list of cultural resources.  It is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic and archaeological resources. http://www.cr.nps.gov/nr/

Smithsonian:
National Museum of American History: The National Museum of American History dedicates its collections and scholarship to inspiring a broader understanding of our nation and its many peoples. We create learning opportunities, stimulate imaginations, and present challenging ideas about our country’s past. http://americanhistory.si.edu/

Archaeological Conservancy:
The Archaeological Conservancy, established in 1980, is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to acquiring and preserving the best of our nation's remaining archaeological sites. Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Conservancy also operates regional offices in Mississippi, Maryland, Ohio, and California. http://www.americanarchaeology.com/aaabout.html

D.C Preservation League: The League seeks to preserve, protect, and enhance the historic built environment of Washington, D.C., through advocacy and education. http://www.dcpreservation.org/

District of Columbia SHPO: The Office of Historic Preservation officially joined the Office of Planning in October 2000.  Their goal is to successfully revitalize residential communities and the downtown area, and thereby capitalize on the unique assets of the past. http://planning.dc.gov/planning/site/default.asp
 
Association for Preservation Technology-Washington, D.C. Chapter (APT-DC): Founded in 1980 this non-profit educational association promotes the exchange of ideas and knowledge concerning the conservation of historic resources and the application of preservation technology. http://www.aptdc.org/

Preservation Maryland:
Preservation Maryland is the state's oldest historic preservation organization. Founded in 1931 as the Society for the Preservation of Maryland Antiquities, Preservation Maryland is dedicated to preserving Maryland's historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes and archaeological sites through outreach, funding, and advocacy. http://www.preservemd.org/

Maryland Historical Trust:
The Trust was formed in 1961 to assist the people of Maryland in identifying, studying, evaluating, preserving, protecting, and interpreting the state's significant prehistoric and historic districts, sites, structures, cultural landscapes, heritage areas, cultural objects, and artifacts, as well as less tangible human and community traditions; it is the principal operating unit within the Division of Historical and Cultural Programs. http://www.marylandhistoricaltrust.net/

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC):
The Commission is a bi-county agency empowered by the State of Maryland in 1927 to acquire, develop, maintain and administer a regional system of parks within Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and to prepare and administer a general plan for the physical development of the two counties. http://www.mncppc.org/

Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (ATHA):
Founded in 1997, ATHA is dedicated to preserving, renovating, enhancing and publicizing the rich history, unmatched cultural facilities/offerings and recreational sites filled with nature’s beauty within Prince George’s County. http://www.anacostiatrails.org/site/

Historic Annapolis Foundation (HAF):
The Foundation educates the public about the history of Annapolis and advocates for the preservation of the city’s architectural integrity as well as maintaining historic sites, conducting research, and presenting tours and events.  http://www.annapolis.org/

Baltimore Heritage, Inc (BHI):
Baltimore Heritage is the citywide, nonprofit historic and architectural preservation organization.  They work to promote the preservation, appreciation, and economic potential of Baltimore’s distinctive architecture, historic neighborhoods, and heritage resources.  http://www.baltimoreheritage.org/

Baltimore: Commission for Historical & Architectural Preservation (CHAP):
CHAP has helped to preserve our City's historic neighborhoods and sites since 1964. Over 7,000 buildings have been designated by CHAP as either local landmarks or part of a local historic district, making the Baltimore City preservation program the most encompassing one in Maryland! http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/government/historic/   

Prince George’s County Historical Society: The Society, headquartered in the historic Marietta Mansion, encourages and participates in the protection and preservation of historic sites and structures in Prince George’s County by fostering an understanding and appreciation of the County’s history and heritage.  http://www.pghistory.org/

Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC):
The Commission, appointed by the County Executive, administers the provisions of the Prince George’s County historic preservation ordinance, and the County’s preservation tax credit program. http://www.mncppc.org/county/hpc.htm

Montgomery County Historical Society: 
The Society is dedicated to encouraging the County’s residents and the public at large to discover their common heritage.  To achieve this, the Society uses its historic resources and fosters partnerships with others to create a shared sense of place.  http://www.montgomeryhistory.org/

Virginia Department of Historic Resources (SHPO):
The Department is the State Historic Preservation Office.  Their mission is to foster, encourage, and support the stewardship of Virginia’s significant historic, architectural, archaeological, and cultural resources. http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/ 

Arlington County Historical Society: The Society, founded in September 1956, is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of Virginia and operated for literary and educational purposes that support research, collection, preservation, discovery, restoration and dissemination of the local history of Arlington County, Virginia. http://www.arlingtonhistoricalsociety.org/

Fairfax County Historical Society (HSFC): The HSFC is the oldest organization of its kind in Fairfax County. The chief mission of the Historical Society of Fairfax County is the promotion and preservation of the history of the Fairfax County. The society's mission is primarily fulfilled through the publication of a biennial Yearbook that contains historical and scholarly articles relative to Fairfax County. http://www.fairfaxhistoricalsociety.org/

Fairfax County History Commission: The Commission helps to identify, document, record, and preserve the County’s past in Northern Virginia. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/histcomm/

Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission: As the official agency of the Commonwealth for the conservation of Pennsylvania’s historic heritage, the powers and duties of the Commission fall into these principal fields: care of historical manuscripts, public records, and objects of historic interest; museums; archaeology; publications; historic sites and properties; historic preservation; geographic names; and the promotion of public interest in Pennsylvania history. http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/

Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM):

Kiplin Hall: Kiplin Hall, in the beautiful Vale of Mowbray, was built in the 1620s for George Calvert, Secretary of State to James I, later 1st Lord Baltimore and founder of Maryland. Its design was unique in Jacobean architecture, with central domed towers on each side of a tall symmetrical pavilion in mellow red brick. Owned by four fascinating families, connected by blood and marriage over four centuries, the Hall is now furnished as a welcoming Victorian family home and contains paintings and furniture collected by the Calverts, Crowes, Carpenters and Talbots. http://www.kiplinhall.co.uk/
