Carl Bovill has a bachelor's and master's degree
in mechanical engineering form the University of California, and
a master's degree in architecture from the University of Hawaii
where he earned the American Institute of Architects Gold Medal
for excellence in the study of architecture. Professor Bovill teaches
materials and methods of construction, environmental control systems,
and technical system integration in design studio and, in collaboration
with other faculty, received an American Institute of Architects
Education Honors Award in 1995. He has also taught at California
Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and at the University
of Tennessee in Knoxville. Prior to teaching Professor Bovill was
a member of Interactive Resources, Inc., an architectural firm in
Richmond, California. His publications include Architectural Design,
Integration of Structural and Environmental Control Systems, Van
Nostrand Reinhold, 1991; and Fractal Geometry in Architecture and
Design, Birkhauser, 1996.
