Growing up, Michael Binder had two passions: drawing and science fiction. When it came time to choose a career, he chose to pursue science and engineering first, but his artistic nature could not be subdued. After working for 15 years as a research contractor to NASA, he chose to make a second career in architecture because it represents a fusion of artistic and technical disciplines, and because he believes in the power of architecture to make the world a better place to live and work.
Sustainable design holds special interest for Mike, and that has been his focus both in school, where he participated in two Solar Decathlon competitions, and after graduation. Mike brings his unique combination of technical and artistic skills to the faculty of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in the hopes of inspiring the same passion for good design that has inspired him in his own life.
