Fred Scharmen is an architect, artist, & educator. His work has been published in Interactions Magazine, ! (SNOB) Magazine, CRIT, and online at DOMUS and Archinect. In 2011 he presented a research paper on the feral waterfront openspace of South Baltimore, authored with co-researcher Eric Leshinsky, at the ACSA 99th Annual Meeting in Montreal. Fred received his Masters in Architecture from Yale University in 2006, and a Bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland in 2001.

He's taught drawing, architecture, & design at Yale, UMD, Morgan State, Catholic University, and the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has worked internationally with the offices of Greg Lynn FORM, Gehry Partners, Keller Easterling Architects, & Ziger/Snead. In 2010, he organized his own design, art & research consultancy: The Working Group on Adaptive Systems. His drawing, photography, & print work has been exhibited on the east & west coasts, his installation & curatorial work, alone & in collaboration, has received national recognition. Fred currently lives, works, & teaches in Baltimore, Maryland.
