2017 has been a banner year for natural disasters and a brutal one for humanity. Hurricanes, tropical storms, wildfires and earthquakes have evoked devastation on a global scale; this year in the U.S., natural disasters have claimed hundreds of lives, displaced tens of thousands more and have economically crippled entire regions. Tropical storm Harvey alone, which flooded an area around Houston the size of Lake Michigan, caused approximately $180 million in damage and displaced over 30,000 people.

Giving Day 2018 begins just at 12:00 midnight! 


The March 7th 24-hour giving challenge supports student scholarships, academic programs and campus initiatives. Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (MAPP) are encouraged to support students and programming towards aimed at creating a quality built environment.

The University of Maryland’s Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development honored five outstanding individuals on March 6, 2018 for their innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to real estate development. The 2018 Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Real Estate Awards recognized Horning Brothers’ Joseph Horning and David Roodberg, Kelly Sweeny McShane, Abraham Rosenthal and Adrian Washington for their outstanding work in revitalization and placemaking, creative problem-solving, collaboration and long-term solutions to urban challenges in the state, region and beyond.
