Elijah Northen, AIA is the Principal of Baltimore-based EN Architects, an office founded on a philosophical dedication to simplicity.  The firm's process is driven by the distillation of ideas into essential forms that embody place and time without mimicry. The product is a contemporary regional vocabulary that serves as a link between past and future. EN Architects works with residential, small-scale commercial, and community-based institutions to clarify their purpose though refined space making.
Prof. Northen is an active community member. During his time as an Associate with Ayers Saint Gross  he co-founded the office’s Emerging Professionals program, served as a mentor for the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Corporate Internship Program, and co-managed the United Way campaign. He was appointed Emerging Leaders United Ambassador, and recently accepted a position as Emerging Leaders United Committee Member.  Mr. Northen was an AIA CivicLAB member during its inaugural year, a participant in the AIA Grassroots Leadership Conference, and is a member of the Future Architects Resource committee with AIA Baltimore.
Prior to opening his practice, Mr. Northen worked for Ayers Saint Gross, Alexander Design Studio and Michael Graves & Associates  He holds both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received the Faculty Award for Design Excellence and the Michael DeFrance Travel Fellowship.  Prof. Northen will teach ARCH402 Architectural Design Studio III the studio explores urban infill conditions across a spectrum of typologies.
