Education Abroad

As a participant in this program, you will learn the full range of responsibilities of architects, surveyors, and artists who work on archaeological projects from the early stages of organizing the site to final publishing of results.

This study abroad course, which is open to advanced undergraduate and graduate students across the university, will take place in the city of Puebla, Mexico and in Tecuanipan, Mexico (farming community near Puebla) in collaboration with the University Iberoamericana Puebla (www.iberopuebla.mx) and Casita de Barro (

This program will expose you to the architectural, landscape, urbanistic, and artistic traditions of Italy, which are considered by many academics to be at the foundations of these disciplines. You will learn by direct exposure to architectural, landscape, and urban sites. Most of the coursework is conducted in situ, directly in the buildings, gardens, and piazzas being studied.

With its several thousand years of civilization woven into its legendary urban texture, Florence embodies all that the Renaissance sought to bring back to life. Bordered by its famous countryside of pine- and cypress-dotted hills, lush vineyards, and olive groves, the Florence of today is an innovative European cultural center as well as a university city.

Be immersed in the amazing history and culture of the Andalucía region of Spain while studying the Gothic, Renaissance and Islamic architecture and urbanism of this region. You will be honing your ability to see and learn through drawing in the context of several World Heritage Sites.

You will explore Rome, Florence, and Vicenza and learn by direct exposure to architectural, landscape, and urban sites.

This past summer, a unique partnership with the international design firm Gensler set the stage for a study abroad program like no other.

June 1, 2014 to July 12, 2014

Learn first hand about the role culture, geography, and history play in architectural form by investigating the built and natural environment in Scandinavia. Spend time in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland; you will stay in the national capitals of Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Stockholm, and use these urban locales as bases for excursions into the wider metropolitan milieu.
